Muna Shegow

Born in the 70s in Somalia, Muna Shegow was a new graduate excited to get her High School diploma at her school's ceremony when civil war broke out. Her family fled Somali to neighboring Kenya and was registered as a refugee at Ifo refugee camp along with her family. In 1999, Muna found her way to San Diego with her six month old daughter.

Muna immediately found employment at a 5 Dollar Store where after just four months, she became a store manager and worked there for 16 years. Muna has also volunteered and organized numerous community mutual aid efforts to find long-term shelter for asylum seekers, help unhoused pregnant young women, and has been a PANA steering committee member for over two years.

Muna believes in the power of people and has an infectious energy that brings people together to work on shared goals of building stronger communities and brighter futures for new arrivals.
