PANA strives to prevent replication of hierarchical power structures that can lead to the very systems of inequity we seek to dismantle. Our approach is grounded in the philosopher Paulo Freire’s writings on emancipatory critical pedagogy, with an emphasis on collective problem posing, reflection, dialogue, and action. Our movement for cultural and political power is grounded in the following values:
Compassionate Leadership. We embrace differences and limitations and build meaningful opportunities for everyone to exercise leadership.
Authentic Demand. Our communities own the decision-making power to dictate the direction of our work and exercise their collective power.
Inclusion. We create and hold trusted, multiracial space that honors the communities we serve. We are anti-racist.
